Living in New York City definitely makes meeting people difficult. The only thing more arduous is being a medical student in NYC…and trying to meet people.  Four years ago in June, Brittany, then a medical student, decided to explore her options on JDate and wrote another medical student, telling him that since they shared the same interest in medicine, and Seinfeld, it made sense to start a conversation. At the time of their first email, Matthew was preparing for his medical boards while Brittany was traveling to Eastern Europe; it was a while before they would have their first date.  Well, after a month of IMing and chatting on the phone, on June 29, 2007 the two met on Mulberry Street where Matt greeted Brittany with a dozen red roses and the most warming smile on his face.  They had their first date in Little Italy at Casa Bella followed by dessert at Veniero’s in the East Village…and then sat on a park bench ‘til 5 am.  The conversation flowed so naturally and it was very evident this date was the start of great things to come.

Despite their busy schedules, they continued to schedule weekly dates, such as comedy clubs, trips to Coney Island, new restaurants and strolls around Manhattan.  Within a year, the couple moved in together.  On June 6, 2008, Matt took Brittany for a romantic dinner at Buddakan followed by a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.  In the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge, Matt read Brittany their original JDate emails, which brought Brittany to tears. Then Matt got down on one knee and asked Brittany to marry him.  On May 23, 2010, the couple got married in a traditional Jewish ceremony at the Central Park Boathouse in New York City.  The couple took a two week cruise to Greece, Turkey, Israel and Egypt for their honeymoon.

In our opinion, the key to finding success on JDate is knowing what you want in a relationship and being at a point in your life when you are ready to commit the time and energy.  We truly believe that part of the success of our relationship came from making time for each other and being each other’s biggest cheerleaders.  Despite both of us being students at the time we met, we both supported each other through the process; both graduated school and now support each other during our residencies.  It is the fact that we have each other that makes the hard times bearable and the good times that much more beautiful.  We truly owe everything to JDate because, without this wonderful website, we would have never met each other. For that, we are eternally grateful.
