It might be 2017, but chivalry circa the 1950s is still just as important as it once was. In fact, it might be even more important. With the rise of social media, text messaging, emails and instant communication, it can be easy to forget to be chivalrous. However, it’s something that can be worked on and something that might just make the girl you’ve been eyeing fall in love with you (or, at the least, agree to go on a date with you).

You don’t have to go crazy trying to think of ways to be chivalrous. There are small things you can do that go a very long way and mean a lot. Hey, many of these things you might already be doing (good job if that’s you!), but if not, keep on reading for way you can add a little chivalry into your life.

1. Hold The Door

Sounds easy enough, right? You’d be surprised, though, how often it doesn’t happen. It’s simple, but it’s nice to do.

2. Walk On The Side Closest To The Street

I had a boyfriend that did this back when I lived in a walking city, and it always made me happy. It was just a little thing he did to show he cared.

3. Follow Through

Yes, this means if you say you’re going to call or text, you must do so. Otherwise, don’t say it.

4. Warm Her Up If She’s Cold

This means either lending her your jacket if you’re wearing one, or putting your arm around her (if she’s comfortable with that). It’s simple yet undeniably romantic.

5. Drop Her Off

Drop her off after a date even if it’s out of your way, or if you must put her in a cab, send a quick text to make sure she got home okay. It’ll mean a lot to her, I promise.

6. Send Flowers

Send flowers just because. If she’s not a flowers girl, think of something she loves and randomly send it to her for no reason other than for her to know you’re thinking of her.

7. Let Her Eat Your Last French Fry

If you’re eating something you know she loves, and you’re nearing the end of it, offer her your last bite or last fry/piece of cake/mac n cheese. It’s silly, but it’ll make her happy and remind her that you know her well.

8. Let Her Pick The Movie

Watch a movie she is dying to see even if you have no desire to. Just go with the flow, and next time you can watch your movie. Even if chick flicks bore you to tears, just laugh it off and be happy that she’s happy.

Of course, there are plenty more ways one can be chivalrous, but these are some common (and relatively easy) ones that you can practice in everyday life. It might not seem like a big deal, but you’ll be surprised how much it means to the other person. Chivalry, my friends, is VERY much alive!

  1. It’s not just chivalry, it’s common sense. Treat a woman just as you would want to be treated yourself.

I’ve Ben out of the dating game for over 38 years, but one thing I always do, never call on a woman empty handed. First date, always bring roses. On subsequent dates I would bring items that I bake, such as banana walnut chocolate bread, bobka or corn bread. All my own recipies.

Always hold the door and if she’s driving always hold the car door open for her to ingress as well as egress.

I may be old fashioned but chivalry never goes out of style.

    Thanks for your blog.
