So, you like the guy! The excitement is high. You have a second or a third date planned, and this time you want to dress a bit sexier. But where is that fine line between being confident, and being too revealing? Impressions are being made, even during a second and a third date. So how can you reveal your sexy side in an elegant way? Read on!

1. It’s All About Balance

A girl should always remain classy when dressing sexy for a date. Have you ever seen a woman on a date whose neckline is way too low and her skirt is surprisingly high? I would call that an “Either /Or Violator.”

Here is the trick to looking sexy, while staying a class act: Choose just one. Either reveal your legs or reveal a sneak-peak of your décolletage.  If you choose legs with a flirty skirt, mini skirt or even a pair of shorts, wear something slightly more conservative on top by either choosing longer sleeves or a blouse that isn’t cut too low. Then just add an edgy, fitted jacket. You’d rather leave a little something to the imagination, wouldn’t you? It you are choosing a more revealing blouse, balance it with a longer pencil skirt or your best fitting denim. Again, the surprise is the best part! Keep him asking for more!

2. Make a Color Connection

Remember my article about first date colors? Let’s revisit that. Colors like red, berry, burgundy, wine, peach and pink are very feminine colors to wear for a date. So let’s spice that up in a creative way. When choosing to wear your attractive red palette, keep in mind the fine line of “too sexy” is easily crossed. Wear your red palette in flowing fabrics, blouses, and skirts, while wearing your darker grounding colors in the most fitted areas: either in a skinny jean, fitted skirt, or even a fitted top. Now to completely contradict myself (because I do have style rules and, yes, I also do break them on occasion), if your red fitted top is the one top that makes you feel confident, fabulous and sexy without being overly revealing, then just make sure to balance it with tailored pant, a full skirt, or even cuffed denim and a bootie. It’s all about balance.

3. Grow Your Stems

The last story I wrote was about minding your shoes for men, but the same goes for ladies! Wearing a fantastic heel is a great way to give off that interest, without crossing the boundary. Yes, you can wear a mini skirt and also a high heel – but choose a lace-up bootie or an ankle-strapped heel to create dimension as well as creative visual interest.

For you girls who feel that “taller and slimmer” would be sexy for you, go for a nude heel. By nude, I mean the color of your skin, which is different for everyone. Not only do your legs look longer when you wear a nude heel, but they also look slimmer!

You can also balance out a more conservative look with a pair of red pumps, which will be a look that is more interesting and unexpected.

4. Define Your Waist

There is nothing that can make you look better than defining your waist. Whether it’s with a fitted jacket, a fit-and-flare dress, a full skirt and belt, or even a sharp jacket, it will make you feel slim and gives your waist definition. When you define your waist where it is the slimmest (about two inches above your navel), you will not only appear five pounds slimmer, but you will feel more feminine just by defining – and thus acknowledging – that you have a waist.

Now, for those of you girls who believe you don’t have a waist, there are absolutely ways to work with this. Pair a medium-width elastic belt over your blouse, but under your jacket. Or find a fit-and-flare dress that hits you perfectly at the waist. Even a fitted jacket or blazer will define your waist. Plus, for girls of all shapes and sizes, let’s break the ice and be honest:  there is nothing wrong with shapewear. If it makes you feel comfortable and confident, go for it

5. Give a Good Hand

Now there’s a good double entendre! Seriously though, I am talking about your nails, ladies! Nothing is more attractive than a beautiful manicure. Think about how good you feel when you look down at your hands and admire your manicure. You hold your cup differently, you hold your phone differently, you express yourself differently. You feel different! That’s sexy without even trying. An extra ten-minute back massage will be relaxing too! A perfect combination as you prepare for a date.

6. Remember to Be Confident

Be confident in yourself, confident in your body, and confident in your skin. That is the ultimate key to looking and feeling sexy. All the insecurities and worries are normal, so break through those concerns with some new styling techniques to make yourself feel secure, confident and sexy.

  1. Hi, some really good points on balance, thanks. Speaking for those who cannot wear heels – it’s important to add boots and flats are ok/sexy too. What would be a BIG PLUS is DO’S & DON’TS for the guys. While they might not look ‘trashy’ the sometimes don’t know casual with girls differs from casual with guys. They simply have 2 modes: office attire and man cave stuff. Serious!! Sometimes I meet a guy who looks like he just got out of a funeral; all black suit, tie, etc. Then I’ve dated the guys with the ‘favorite tee’ collection. Hey that’s cool if you’re just out of college but anyone over 50 – really needs to step it up. It’s ok to look ‘gay’ in fact it should be the barometer for successful wardrobe; GUYS IF YOU LOOK GAY – YOU’RE DATE-WORTHY. There, not exactly pc but truth. GUYS: DON’T LOOK LIKE YOU’RE STILL WORKING. DON’T LOOK LIKE IT’ BEER N PIZZA NIGHT. Seriously….it’s a DATE.

  2. But what if you wear shapewear and you want to hug your date? Guys will find a stiff, tight undergarmet unappealing when he touches you. And then what do you say? Sounds like the same problem Bridget Jones had. What do you do about that?

  3. Thank you to all of you lovely ladies who commented! I couldn’t agree more with you Anakus! In my experience men have a hard time finding the middle ground of style. Somewhere between dressy and causal. aka: casual cool. Men do need a do’s and don’ts. So I will keep that on my writing list! Also, in my next story I will address now to do sexy with boots and flats. Thank you for that comment!

And to Princess – thank you so much for your question about what to do with shapewear. I will answer this for you in my next story!

    Stay Stylish everyone!

  4. Another really important piece for me is aftershave/fragrance. I think less is always MORE!
