Dear JDate,
I found JDate.com on a fluke when I did a search on the Internet for Jewish Internet dating services. I decided to join JDate.com in February of 1999 figuring it was worth a try since I wasn’t meeting quality Jewish men any other way. And, it wouldn’t cost me anything to post my profile, so what did I have to lose.
Every time I looked at my JDate.com search matches, my eyes stopped on Jamie’s profile. Something about his picture caught my eye. But even more, I loved his profile. I felt like I was reading my own profile. I couldn’t bring myself to send him an email because I figured I wouldn’t have a chance, so why try (I know, great attitude!). Well, about one month after I signed up for JDate.com, he sent me an email. I was so excited. But, I still figured I was out of his league, and that he probably emailed all the new members, so I was probably “just a number” (gotta love my self esteem!). I didn’t respond to his email.
Soon after receiving Jamie’s email, I was talking to a friend of mine who is also on JDate.com, and he said that he thought it is so rude when someone doesn’t at least acknowledge that they got an email. So, I sent Jamie an email back since my friend had caused me guilt for not responding to his email originally. It was five days after he had sent me an email, but as they say “better late than never!” Jamie emailed me back right away. We emailed each other during the next day at work (yeah, I didn’t get much done that day!?!). We talked on the phone the following day and went out on our first date that night – March 19, 1999.
I’m so glad that my friend made me feel guilty about not responding to Jamie’s original email. We started dating immediately, and neither of us dated any one else after we first met. Jamie proposed to me on March 19, 2000 in front of my mother, sister and brother-in-law (yes, he has guts!), and we were married on September 3, 2000! I still can’t believe that I’m married.
For everyone out there that hasn’t met their match yet…keep trying. If it can happen to us, it can happen to anyone! Good luck! And thanks JDate.com for uniting another couple in marriage!”
