How did you meet? What was your first date like? Give us all the details!
Oleg first messaged me on JDate in January 2015. I had just come out of a relationship, someone who I had also met from JDate. I decided that I would just get back on the dating scene for fun and didn’t expect to meet someone so amazing as quickly as I did. After speaking to each other for a few dates, Oleg asked that we meet for coffee. I felt it was too soon to meet up, so I was trying to avoid meeting until he was back next time from his work rotation (he is a mining engineer, so he works in Northern Ontario). But ultimately, I thought having coffee would be quite harmless. I enjoyed our first date; we met for coffee at Starbucks and then went for a long walk down Yonge Street. I wasn’t really sure if I was interested initially because some of the goals he thought he had at the time weren’t in line with mine. But after the first date, he invited me for dinner the following night. We went to C’est What on Front Street, talked for a few hours and I ultimately saw him off to Billy Bishop Airport.

Describe the moment you knew it was true love!
We took a trip to Ottawa together shortly after we started dating where we got to spend a lot of quality time together. I knew that I was falling for him, but didn’t want to let my guard down. On the way home, it was really slippery on the roads and we ended up getting in a mini car accident with no damage to us or the car. At the on route stop while sitting in the food court, Oleg gave me a hug to console me because he could really see that I was shaken up by the experience. He then moved the hair from out of my face, put it behind me ear and whispered “I love you.” I looked up and there were tears in his eyes. I knew at that moment I was in love with him.

What advice would you give other JDaters?
Know what you want in a partner and do not settle for anything less. I met Oleg when I decided for myself that I was done trying to be someone other than exactly myself. Almost two years later, Oleg and I are engaged and will be married next winter.
