Dear JDate,

cont-mt-georgi-richardWe were married on December 22, 2006 at the Aviara Four Seasons Resort. Rabbi Ben Kamin and The Very Reverend Scott Richardson officiated. Rich is a divorce mediator and I am a marketing and public relations strategist.

Our JDate names were City Front Guy and DustyB.

We met on JDate six years ago during the World Series. We delighted in “watching baseball” together online. Over the course of a month of online chatting and phone calls, we were drawn to each other’s sense of human sensibilities. Our first meeting was halfway between Carlsbad, California and downtown San Diego. It was a first for Rich who always had his online date visit him downtown. I had been on JDate only three weeks.

I sought Rich out. He was looking in a “younger” age category. I told him he wouldn’t be disappointed, even though we were the same age. He certainly wasn’t… I always tell people I know to make a list of whom you want and what you want in a relationship. It helps you to focus and clarifies your thinking. That’s what I did, and Rich matched every category. On the other hand, he had the opportunity to meet lots of women online, so he too knew what he wanted.

Over the years, our commitment grew. Rich, whose A Fair Way Mediation Center focuses on helping people through divorce, asked me to “jump over the broom” while we were on a business trip to Puerto Vallarta. We are both Jewish, but wanted to make sure we were covering all the bases and included a Rabbi, Episcopal Priest and the African American tradition of “broom jumping” in the ceremony. Each of our wedding guests received a chocolate bar wrapped in our images and the phrase “we’ll always have baseball” on it.

Tip from Georgi for other JDaters:
I made a list with everything I was looking for in a man. In my case, the parameters included liking sports and being Jewish, tall, funny, kind, smart and a professional or someone who loved his successful career. Finding someone who also knew where to look for jewelry was a bonus!

Having the list and keeping my intentions on my beshert kept my enrollment on JDate short, focused and successful. And it served two purposes. It helped to make me understand ME and helped me to find the man of my heart.

Tip from Richard for other JDaters:
I knew I wanted someone Jewish. That’s the bedrock of a relationship for me. Finding someone who loved baseball, travel, humor and movies was just icing on the cake. Georgi was a gift from G-d. I would have never met her without the help and assistance of JDate. And, yes, I DO know where to buy jewelry
