JDate is responsible for more Jewish marriages than all other dating sites combined! But we’ve got more than just statistics to back it up. In our “Success Stories” feature, you’ll meet real couples who found love online.

How did you meet? What was your first date like? Give us all the details!
Thank you so much for helping to turn my story – into a JDate success story! And, what’s more, ours is a two-generation JDate success story! Let me explain …
I met my fiancée, Hilary, on JDate back in 2012. We had each clicked on each other’s profiles, and, once we did, we realized we just “clicked” together! We quickly moved from text messages to emails to phone calls – and finally, to our first date. We met up at Zabar’s on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and shopped together. We then took our purchases to the lawn of Riverside Park for a picnic that neither of us wanted to end! We’ve been together ever since, and will tie the knot this coming October 16th.

But, as nice as our story is, the backstory is even better!

A few years before Hilary and I met, Hilary’s mother, Beverly, decided to join JDate at age 70. It did not take her long to click on (and with) 80-year-old Herb. Bev, being the Jewish mother she is, decided she wanted the same happiness for her daughter that JDate had brought her, and encouraged Hilary to rejoin JDate. I’m glad she did – Bev’s encouragement led Hilary to me! Hilary always reminds me that she paid for a 1-month membership, and met me 3 days later. So, she actually got 27 more days of JDate than she needed – but she’s anything but complaining!

Describe the moment you knew it was true love!
Hilary & Andrew 03Neither one of us was prepared to admit on that first date that we both knew it was true love, but neither of us had experienced a date that had ever gone that well. We laughed, shared stories, talked about our hopes and dreams and relayed stories of growing up and our common professional interests. We even sang a few commercial jingles we both remembered! It took us a few months to tell each other “I love you,” but the setting was perfect – back in Riverside Park for another picnic. We felt it, we said it and we both instantly knew it was true – and forever.

What advice would you give other JDaters?
It’s not easy to relate our stories to other JDaters, except for this: don’t wait for your mother or father to find their own success stories first, or even wait for them to encourage you to sign up! My only regret is not finding Hilary sooner. Then again, perhaps these things happen when they are meant to!

Hilary & Andrew 02I’ll close this note with another thank you – and one final thought. This Passover, and for Hilary and me, the song “Dayenu” has taken on new meaning. If only Bev and Herb had found each other on JDate, it would have been enough. If only Hilary and I had found one another on JDate, it would have been enough. That both mother and daughter found their loves on JDate (and that one of those loves is me!) is more than anyone can ask.

We’ll be thinking of you on October 16, 2016 as we become husband and wife, and we’ll be grateful to you always.

  1. I wonder what the age distribution of successful matches is. I bet that it is higher among the under 30 and over 60 age groups. Dating is very hard in the middle years and a hard shell has often been developed. The older people are from an earlier generation and are no longer in a race for the legal tender. Middle age men who have low to moderate income and women who haven’t aged well are probably at a disadvantage. Sometimes middle aged men have an unrealistic expectation and aim for women alot younger than them.
