We have been happily married for the past four years, but our marriage began with a trick.  My husband is a high school physics teacher and he told me that he wanted to celebrate the end of the school year with dinner at the Ritz Carlton.  I immediately thought I had him all figured out:  He was going to propose to me at the Ritz Carlton.  I was so excited that I called my family and friends to share the news with them.  Two days after he told me about celebrating at the Ritz Carlton, he called me and said that he was taking me to one of my favorite places by the water.   When we got there, he suggested we go see the ducks.  As we walked through the gazebo, he stopped and knelt down on one knee and proposed to me.  I was in complete shock as I was expecting him to propose a couple of weeks later at the Ritz Carlton.  The day he proposed is etched forever into my mind as one of the happiest days of my life.

Our relationship began on JDate in June 2006.  I was living in Pennsylvania at the time and Avi in Virginia.   I was thinking of moving to the DC area, so I was checking out profiles that were close to where my aunt and cousins lived.  Avi’s profile was a match to what I was searching for, so I sent him a tease to show my interest.  We connected on JDate through e-mail and instant messaging, and then moved to talking on the phone.  Two weeks after we met online, Avi drove four and a half hours to meet me.  We hit it off and had a fun first date filled with effortless conversation and laughter.  Since we were both off for the summer, we made plans to spend as much time together as possible.  We visited with each other and became inseparable, visiting frequently. In July 2006, we decided to exclusively date and took our profiles off of the site.

Avi is my best friend and we have shared many happy times together, as well as overcome obstacles which have only strengthened our relationship.   We are very grateful to JDate for bringing us together.  Without JDate, we would have never met, as we were living far away from each other.  I am also grateful to my dear friend Ruth who encouraged me to try JDate just one more time.  I used to read the success stories posted on the website and hoped that someday I would meet my Beshert.  My hopes have come true, as I have found my soul mate.  Now, I can add my story to your growing list of successful relationships.  To all you JDaters out there that might be about to give up on finding your Beshert, don’t give up, as you never know if the next person you meet will be the one. “Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.  Find the one that makes your heart smile.”

Sincerely,

Marissa & Avi
