Jon and I met the traditional way: on JDate. He emailed me asking about my recent trip to New Zealand, telling me he had traveled there too. I was a little skeptical initially because he was two whole years younger than me (red flag: could be immature!) and his main profile picture featured him sitting on a bench while hugging a life-sized plastic fish (red flag: too goofy!).

I was pretty picky, but Jon got some points by starting things with a phone call rather than sending a text message (single men reading this: take note). So I started thinking, hmmm… maybe he’s not as immature as I predicted. He actually picked up the phone and called me; that’s a big deal these days. We talked on the phone for a while and decided to go out on April 8, 2011 (a Friday).

Jon came to pick me up outside my apartment building and we took a taxi to a restaurant on the Upper West Side. We ordered a lot of food and then proceeded to share our adventurous travel stories. We laughed and enjoyed each other’s company, finding that we had a lot in common.

We left feeling stuffed, but there is always room for dessert! So, we went to get some ice cream. It was there that Jon asked me to go on a second date… the very next day! Little did I know, Jon had a stomach bug that night and was feeling terrible. He just wanted to go home, but didn’t want to end our date because he was having a really good time. Even though he wasn’t feeling well, we moved on to spot number three next: a cute bar, just a few blocks away. We ordered some cocktails, found a cozy spot in the corner and had a drink (or two, maybe three). And maybe we even shared a first kiss…

We met the next day, Saturday, for our second date. Things went so well we decided to meet again the day after that, Sunday, for our third date. Yes, that’s right, three dates in a row. We started talking on the phone every day and hanging out whenever we could. At some point Jon asked if I was his girlfriend, and I said, “What are you talking about? I’ve been telling people that you’re my boyfriend for weeks!”

Obviously things progressed and now here you are reading our Success Story. We will be married this July! Thanks JDate!
