Dear JDate,

cont-mt-robyn-gary.gifRobyn and I met through JDate.com and got married in Oceanside, Long Island on February 3, 2001. We are expecting our first child in January 2002. Here is our story.

I live and work in London, UK. Last year, I sent notes through JDate to several American girls from New York. My business is international, and in 1999 and 2000, I was making quite a number of business trips to New York…so it seemed a good idea to combine business with pleasure!

I emailed Robyn in February 2000, and she did not reply. In March, I started dating an English Jewish girl, but we split up in early June…and shortly afterwards, I received an email from Robyn! She was going to be in London at the end of June, never having been there before, and thought that it might be an opportunity, perhaps, to make a new friend…from my photo (which makes me look much heavier than I am) she certainly didn’t fancy me.

She was staying in King’s Cross – not a very nice part of London, and on the telephone, I told her that she would just have to trust me with regard to driving her to a nicer area for supper! Getting into a car with a man you have never met before is seldom a good idea…in a country you have never been to before, it is even riskier…!!!

We got on very well and agreed to meet up two weeks later, when she would be back in London after a Scandinavian tour. What Robyn didn’t know at that time was that I was flying to New York the next day, partly for business, but also to meet another JDate girl! On the airplane, I was just wishing that I was with Robyn…

After our subsequent meetings in London, I went to see her in New York, and British Airways and Virgin have both made quite a bit of money on us since. The relationship developed quickly (when two people know that they are right for each other, this can happen!), and on Friday, August 25, 2000, I asked her to marry me. She said yes. The only problem was that we were having lunch in a nice restaurant, and Robyn was so stunned that she couldn’t eat (I proposed after the soup).

We had an engagement party in London and a “Shabbat Chatan” with my family and Robyn’s friends in Israel. We then had a fantastic wedding in New York and a honeymoon in Portugal. Now, we are settling down to married life in London, a place that as little as eight months ago Robyn had never even visited!

So, JDate, thank you very much for making two more single Jews happily married…I am certainly recommending you to our single friends!
