Well, folks, it’s about that time … Valentine’s Day is upon us. Whether you hate it or love it, it’s coming our way. The holiday of all things hearts, flowers, red and pink is something people either loathe, adore or simply love to hate. However, whatever your stance is on the day of love, it can be fun to spice things up a bit and make it less of an ordinary day. Here are a few ways you can do that in your own relationship this Valentine’s Day.

1. Slip Into Something Sexy

Look, I’m all about sleeping in my ex-boyfriend’s oversized T-shirts (side note: I own at least five ex’s shirts, and they are the most comfy things ever … current favorites include Mike’s “ARMY” shirt and Adam’s “Allman Brothers” Shirt, if you were wondering), but Valentine’s Day is the day to step out of your comfort zone and show some skin! You don’t think lingerie is your thing? Well, I’m going to guess it is most certainly your man’s thing, so put on that lacy, silky number (that I know you own), and surprise your bae. He will be SO excited. If you feel uncomfortable, just laugh it off (and maybe have a few glasses of wine prior).

2. Cook A Gourmet Dinner

This one is especially good for those who don’t normally cook. Your significant other will be thrilled to come home to a freshly cooked meal. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself! Find a recipe in a book that might look a little difficult (and more “gourmet”) and give it your best shot. Set the table nicely, light candles, turn off the TV while you eat and make it extra special.

3. Pick Out A Movie That Will Get You “In The Mood”

I’m not talking porn here (although, if that’s your thing, more power to you), but what immediately comes to mind is “50 Shades of Grey” (or just go and see “50 Shades Darker” when it comes out!). I mean how can you NOT get in the mood when you watch that movie?

4. Make It A Throwback Evening

Play something like “7 Minutes in Heaven” or “Spin the Bottle” for giggles. Yoyu can change the rules, make it what you want and just have fun. However, this time, you won’t be worried that your parents will come down to the basement in the middle of your steamy make-out session with your crush from physics class.

5. Dress The Part

Yes, I’m referring to role playing. One of you can be the police officer and the other is the person being arrested. There’s teacher and student (Hey, Mrs. Robinson), a couple from a movie you love, two strangers meeting for the first time … let your mind wander and act it out!

Whatever you decide to do on V-Day, keep it light and have fun. It’s not a serious holiday, so don’t make it one. Do something special, step out of your comfort zone and make it a memorable one. Happy Valentine’s Day, lovebirds!
