How to Get Over a Breakup_Header

A relationship – regardless of how long or serious it was – gives you experience and prepares you for the next one. If you’re newly single, you may be wondering how to start over and start dating again. If a past relationship is holding you back from meeting someone new, here are 8 tips to get over that breakup!

1. Stop Feeling Sorry for Yourself
Rule #1: stop feeling sorry for yourself. We’ve all been there. At some point in life, everyone has been dumped. Regardless of who ended the relationship, moping doesn’t get you anywhere. You need to stop moping and get out there.

2. The Past is the Past
At one point, all relationships are great. But yours is over now. So forget about it. Don’t analyze all of your good memories and try to figure out what went wrong. That won’t do any good. There’s no need to dwell on it. Shut the door to the past and make the decision to leave it closed.

3. Shop ‘Til You Drop
Shopping is a great way to make yourself feel good. Not only is it fun, but updating your wardrobe helps you feel sexy and desirable again. A sexy new outfit can be better therapy than a 90-minute massage.

4. Run Your Heart Out
When you’re feeling low, the gym is a miracle worker. You’d be surprised how fun getting sweaty can be. Besides, endorphins are like a natural high. So instead of drinking during the day to cheer yourself up, hit the gym.

5. Party Hardy
Sitting on your couch watching TV isn’t the way to get over a breakup. Sure, you need a few days to yourself. But, you won’t be able to move on from your ex unless you’re out and about. Being social and having fun with your friends is taking a step in the right direction.

6.  Make a Positivity Board

Create a positivity board to help remind yourself that you’re fabulous. Make something that inspires you and gives you confidence, and then hang it on your wall. When you walk by it every day, it will make you feel great. As silly as it sounds, positivity boards work.

7. Date Up a Storm
Until you meet someone amazing who is ten times better than your ex, you won’t forget about him or her. And let’s face it, you aren’t going to meet Mr. or Ms. Perfect sitting on your couch eating Chinese food. You have to date, date, and date some more. Remember, regardless of how bad your breakup was, it always gets better. So get out there and have fun. Your future husband or wife could be the next person you meet!

8. Take Up a Hobby

Hobbies not only keep you busy, but they also make you interesting. Find something you enjoy, and do it often. It will make you happy and distract you from all that sulking you were doing. Hobbies are great diversions and make you a better, more datable person.

There are tons of wonderful people out there. So, instead of harping on your ex, get out there and meet someone new!
