If there was ever a doubt that fate does not have a role in love, Cory and I are here to prove otherwise.  There were quite a few times throughout our lives where we should have, or could have met but as fate would have it, we never did.  We were born in the same town on Long Island and therefore would have grown up together and gone to the same schools.  That didn’t happen for us because his family moved to Florida when he was eight years old and we never had the chance to meet.  Later on in life, one of his family friends lived next door to me and became one of my friends, as well.  We could have met each other several different times through this mutual friend but, again, it was not meant to be yet.

I decided to join JDate thanks to my very persistent mom who liked to tell me, “A lot of my friends’ daughters met their matches on JDate.”  I signed up for the month-to-month membership several times over a period of a few years.  I would meet many different types of guys but nothing worked out long term with any of them. As a result, I would periodically let my membership expire, wait a while and then rejoin.  In October 2008, I decided to join again and this time I signed up for a 6 month subscription.  This was the first time ever I had signed up to JDate for longer than one month at a time.  Because of my past history on the site, I didn’t have much hope for meeting “The One” this time around either.  Much to my surprise, fate had other ideas and meeting Cory only took three weeks!

Cory, like me, almost didn’t make it to JDate.  He is not a practicing Jew and marrying a Jewish woman was not a high priority for him.  Signing up for JDate wasn’t something he originally thought he would ever do.  Eventually, on a whim, he did sign up and he, too, was only a member a few short months before we met.

Our first phone conversation lasted over an hour and we both knew we had amazing chemistry and wanted very much to meet.  Our first date was on November 4, 2008, which happened to be the same day as the presidential election.  We had dinner and then went for drinks where we laughed and talked for hours.  Cory joked afterwards that he wasn’t sure if I was so happy and smiling so much that night because I was having fun with him or because Obama won!

Since our first date, we have talked a lot about our future together and I recently moved from my apartment in New Jersey to his home in Westchester.  We got engaged in March 2010 and our wedding is set for May 29, 2011.  Thank you fate, love and JDate!
