For the first 28 years of my life, I was single. I wasn’t single because I had difficulty meeting women, but because I had difficulty meeting the right women. I first joined JDate in 2008, and while I never expected anything meaningful to materialize, I consistently renewed my membership just in case.

On November 3, 2013, I received a message from “TheRealDeal.” Because she had no pictures on her profile, I felt compelled not to respond. If she hadn’t taken enough effort to post a profile picture, how serious could she really be about meeting someone online? However, her username was just obnoxious and arrogant enough to elicit a response. I responded to her message, and demanded that if she really, in fact, was “TheRealDeal,” she better email me a picture that proved it.
