If statistics show that 1 out of 5 people marry through online dating, then why does online dating have so many skeptics, when it’s the most obvious and easy avenue for creating new companions and/or relationships?  No matter how many men and women I meet all over the world, I continue to encourage them to broaden their social network, and continue to date online! Why not?!

Well, the answer is simple! People lie about their profiles, giving skeptics more reason to be! Nowadays, everyone is so quick to create a profile that mimics what they “presume” will attract the perfect match. Well, I have news for you: It’s not working. I’m not saying that your soul mate isn’t out there, because he/she most likely is, but I am saying that you’ve joined an online dating service for a reason, to find someone who is compatible with you. So what’s the point in lying? You’re essentially doing yourself harm. You’re basing a relationship on lies right from the start!

As a professional matchmaker of 21 years, trust me, I’ve seen and heard it all!  The most common complaint that I hear from my clients (men) is that women lie about their weight and age. One of the worst things you can do ladies! Men fall in love through their eyes, and if you show up to a date weighing 20 pounds heavier than your picture…well, I’m sure you know the end result!  If you expect realistic results, then you need to do the same.

Most commonly, women are misled by his height and age; another vital factor, when engaging in a new relationship. A person’s appearance and age go hand in hand so, if you lie about one, what else are you lying about?! My advice to anyone using online dating is this:

Stay true to who you are and what you’re looking for, and you will see growth in your options and results.

Whether you’re dating online, by yourself or through a service, you have to remember that staying true will only help you achieve the goal that you set out to accomplish.  If more men and women followed these guidelines, all those skeptics would become believers, and all of those nightmares would become dreams…
